Lucille Buhr

Lucille Buhr, 90, of Sumner, died Sunday, October 14, 2012, at her home in Sumner, following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.   Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. The family suggests that friends may, if they wish make memorial contributions to St. John Lutheran Church organ chime fund.

Lucille Buhr, daughter of Adolph and Malinda Joens Homan, was born October 2, 1922, in Douglas Township of rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized on October 22, 1922 and confirmed on March 21, 1937, at St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas. She attended rural school in the area and later received her G.E.D. in Sumner in 1973.

On October 2, 1942, she was united in marriage with Herbert W. Buhr at St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas. Lucille was an Avon representative in Sumner for thirty-nine years. She had been a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sumner, and also active in the Sumner Band Parents, and Boy and Girl Scouts.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Bennett-Stork (Chuck Stork) of East Dubuque, IL, Audrey Owen (Doug) of Clinton, Gene Buhr (Barbara) of Faribault, MN, and Douglas Buhr (Leticia) of Honolulu, Hawaii; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, Dennis Bennett (Angie) and their children, Alexandria, Sara & William, David Bennett (Sarah) and their son, Anderson, Matthew Owen (Sabrina) and their daughter, Leah, Andrew Owen (Bridget) and their children, Jackson and Laura, Megan Peterson (Trevor) and their son, Micah, Benjamin Owen, Heidi Mittlestaedt (William) and their children, Jonathan and Ellamae, Daniel Buhr (Kate) and their children, Miles and Oliver, Nicholas Buhr (Aaron), Katherine Buhr, Keala Buhr, Marisa Buhr, Robyn Titcomb (Will), Misty (Eric) Agrigado and their children, Aaron, Tiana, and Anaya, Marc Titcomb (Kiana) and their children, Christian, Taylee, Thalia & Teniel; four sisters, Bernita Holm of West Des Moines, Dorothy Baker of Bakersfield, CA, Betty Westmeyer (Russ) of Waverly, and Gladys Reif (Glenn) of Muscatine; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Brase of Tripoli and Veva Buhr of Aurora, IA

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, who died December 11, 1997; her son-in-law, Martin Benett; and her brothers-in-law, Arnold Buhr, Erwin Brase, Rev. Elroy Buhr, Howard Holm, and James Baker.

Thoughts and prayers for the entire family. I remember Lucille working with the American Legion Auxillary and events that the Junior Auxillary did. She will missed by many. I was a classmate of Doug.
